Wick
How to use patterned wicks?
A patterned wick is a colored or patterned cotton thread. The burn size follows the diameter; the pattern adds no heaviness. Wood crackles; this page is for thread. Soya Wax 50 container, tip ~5 mm.

Choose the size without looking at the pattern
Inner diameter and wax type. A colored braid is not a heavy wick. Thin for a narrow container, a thick band for a wide one.
-
Soak and center
Stick the base, hold it upright with a holder. Soya Wax 50 double boiler ~51–55°C, fragrance 6–10%.
-
Burn test
Wait 24 hours. Tip ~5 mm. If the pattern swells the flame, go one size thinner. Wood mm is separate.
Not wood
A patterned thread is cotton. Wood crackle and soaking are separate guides.
Undyed surface
The pattern shows in light soy. Heavy dye (~1%) hides the thread; granule, not food coloring.
FAQs

A dyed thread can soot if it leaves too much pigment. Tip ~5 mm; the soot guide is separate.
A patterned wick for tealights?
A narrow cup wants a thin thread. A thick patterned braid makes a tealight smoke.
