What is soy wax?

Soy wax is a vegetable candle base derived from soybean oil. Rufus Soya Wax 50 is in flake form; it is chosen for container candles for clean burning and scent retention.

A short definition

Soy wax is a candle raw material that becomes solid at room temperature through the hydrogenation of soybean oil. Compared with petroleum-derived paraffin, it is vegetable; it is preferred for container and aromatherapy candles. Not every soy SKU in the catalog is the same: the melting/pouring ranges of blends, soy paraffin and creamy bases differ.

Working with Rufus Soya Wax 50

Soya Wax 50 is in flake form. According to the product note, melting is about 51–55°C and setting is in the 42–60°C band on average. Do not leave it on a direct flame; use a double boiler and a thermometer. The oil saturation averages 8% — weigh the fragrance without exceeding this ceiling. At least 24 hours before the first burn, and a 48-hour to 1-week cure for scent, is recommended. Store at 18–21°C; protect from above 32°C and below 5°C.

Paraffin, blends and stearin

Paraffin is economical for firmer mold/pillar work. Soy and paraffin can be mixed, but naturalness and the pouring range change; do not melt every wax in the same pot at 80°C. Stearic acid is used for hardness in paraffin molds; it is not required in a Soya Wax 50 container recipe. If you are looking for a ready balanced soy-paraffin base, read the instructions of that SKU in the catalog.

FAQs

How does soy wax smell?

Plain soy carries a light vegetable/oily aroma. The scent of the finished candle depends on the oil-based fragrance you add.

Does soy wax sink?

High pouring temperature, fast cooling, a draft or an incompatible additive can cause sinkholes. Keep the heat in the Soya Wax 50 range; see the troubleshooting guide.

Where can I buy soy wax?

Soya Wax 50 is stocked from the Rufus Concept Nilüfer / Bursa warehouse in 0.5–25 kg packages. For a wholesale list, the Wholesale / Workshop page or WhatsApp is enough.
