Raw Material

What is paraffin?

Paraffin is a mineral candle base from petroleum refining. It is economical for firm molds and pillars; it is not melted at the same temperature as a Soya Wax 50 container recipe.

What it is for

Paraffin is solid at room temperature and stays firm in forms that must come out of a mold. Soya Wax 50, on the other hand, is flakes, ~51–55°C melting and focused on container/aromatherapy. Paraffin generally works in a higher melting/pouring band; go by the range on the product page.

Stearin and dye

In mold paraffin, stearic acid is often tried for hardness and opacity. Dye granules are melted homogeneously with the wax. Fragrance is oil-based; weigh the load according to the oil saturation — more scent is not always better.

Safe melting

Do not put it directly on the stove. A double boiler and a thermometer are essential. A blanket 80°C rule in the same pot as soy spoils the structure of the soy. If you want a mix, see the separate guide or buy a ready blend SKU.

FAQs

Is paraffin unhealthy?

It is common in molded and decorative work; soot and wick choice determine burning quality. Soya Wax 50 is often preferred for scented container candles. Write any claim according to the product label.

Paraffin or soy for a first candle at home?

Soy for glass containers and scent. Paraffin for detailed silicone molds and pillars. Do not mix the two on day one.
