Troubleshooting
Why does a candle go out?
A candle going out is most often a thin wick, a wet/untrimmed tip, tunneling or a draft. Trim the wick ~5 mm dry; the pool should reach the edge. Soya Wax 50 container, paraffin mold.
-
Dry and trim the wick
Cut off a wet or carbonized tip. The wick ~5 mm, standing upright. A wick holder prevents center drift.
-
Open the pool
In tunneling, wax at the edge suffocates the flame. On the first burn the pool should reach the edge. If needed, one size firmer wick or a double wick.
-
Cut the draft
Windows and fans blow out the flame. A cold room slows the pool in Soya Wax 50; try in a closed, calm place.
A candle that seems not to burn
If the wick is buried in wax, the flame cannot draw fuel. Dig a hollow and free the wick. The sinkhole guide is separate.
A new pour
Wait 24 hours. A damp pour and excess fragrance (exceeding oil saturation) put out the flame. The Soya Wax 50 ceiling is ~8%.
