Temperature

At what temperature does soy wax melt and get poured?

Rufus Soya Wax 50 melts at about 51–55°C. Excess heat spoils scent and surface; a thermometer and a double boiler are essential.

Soya Wax 50 melting and setting

According to the product note, melting is about 51–55°C and setting is in the 42–60°C band on average. The range differs for other soy bases (creamy, blend, soy paraffin); always read the description of that SKU. Do not put it directly on the stove: a double boiler and constant stirring melt it evenly.

Fragrance and pouring

Add the fragrance after the wax is off the heat. At very high temperature the scent evaporates; at very low temperature it does not disperse. Pour after an even melt, keeping the container at room temperature. High pouring temperature and fast cooling increase the risk of sinkholes, cracks and wet spots.

Do not mix with paraffin

Paraffin generally works in a higher melting/pouring range. A blanket rule of 80°C for every wax in the same pot spoils the structure of soy. Separate the recipe by wax type.

FAQs

Should I take soy wax up to 75–80°C?

It is not needed for Soya Wax 50; the product melts in the 51–55°C band. Higher heat is for some additives or other bases. Excess heat evaporates the fragrance and increases the risk of sinkholes.

What should I do if there is a sinkhole?

Lower the pouring temperature, keep the container warm and cut the draft. A thin second pour can fix the surface; even out the whole surface so it leaves no mark.
