How to choose a candle match?
A match is a lighter. In a deep glass, a long stick keeps the hand away from the wax. Letting the pool reach the edge on the first burn is a separate protocol; a match does not shorten it. Do not drop the stick onto the Soya Wax 50 surface.
-
Choose the stick length for the container
In a deep jar a short lighter burns the hand. A long stick reaches the wick from the rim. For a tealight, a short one is enough.
-
Light it, do not drop it
Leave the wick tip ~5 mm dry. Do not let the sulfur head fall onto the Soya Wax 50 surface; it spoils the scent test.
-
Do not confuse it with the first-burn time
The match only provides the flame. Letting the pool reach the edge is in the how-to-burn-a-candle guide. Putting it out is with a trimmer or lid.
Lighter
On a flat tealight surface a lighter is faster. In a deep container a match is safer. Protect the flame from drafts.
Smoking
Smoke from the match head is not smoking. If the wick is long, see the smoking guide.
FAQs
Does a scented match affect the wax?
The head's scent should not mix with the wax's fragrance load. Keep the stick away from the container. Fragrance 6–10% is separate.
How many minutes for the first burn?
The match page gives no time. Burn until the pool reaches the edge; the time depends on the diameter.
