Mold
How to make pillar candles?
A pillar candle comes out of the mold and stands on its own. Paraffin gives firmness; Soya Wax 50 is a soft container soy. Stearin can help with hardening. Cool completely and do not force the mold.
-
Prepare the mold and wick
The mold should be dry. Fix the wick in the center. Weigh the net grams with water.
-
Melt the paraffin in a double boiler
Melt in the band in the product note. Soya Wax 50 is 51–55°C but may stay soft in a pillar; prefer paraffin for mold work.
-
Pour, cool, remove
Pour slowly. Do not force the mold before 6–12 hours. Remove it by flexing; for a surface dip, a second pour.
Wick
The size depends on the pillar. A thin wick tunnels, a thick one soots. A burn test is essential. A wooden wick does not suit every pillar.
Difference from a container candle
A container candle stays in the glass (Soya Wax 50). A pillar comes out of the mold, and its base should sit flat. Do not mix them up.
