Candle Making Supplies

Problem

What are wet spots in candles?

Wet spots are matte or glossy patches where the wax pulls away from the glass; the candle does not leak. Dirty glass, a high pouring temperature, drafts and fast cooling are common causes.

It is not a leak

What you see is the glass-wax interface not adhering in places. Soya Wax 50 shrinks as it cools; a drafty window or fridge cooling increases the patches. Do not confuse it with a functional leak.

Reducing it during the pour

Wash the container free of grease and dust, and dry it. Do not take the pouring temperature far above the Soya Wax 50 band (melting ~51–55°C). Keep the container at room temperature, pour slowly and cut the draft. Do not touch it for at least 24 hours.

Cosmetic or a defect

Small patches are common in container soy and do not affect burning. They are visible in clear glass when selling; an opaque container or a label covers them. Sinkholes and cracks are separate problems — see the troubleshooting guide.

FAQs

Is a wet-spot candle defective?

No, most of the time it is only visual. If there is no wick, scent or surface sinkhole issue, it can be burned.

Does a second pour fix it?

For a surface sinkhole, a thin second pour works; it does not always reach a patch beside the glass. First correct the cooling and cleaning rules.
