Wick

What is a candle wick?

The wick is the fuel line that draws wax up to the flame. The size depends on the container's inner diameter, not on candle weight. Soya Wax 50 is oily and may need a firmer wick, but thick is not always right. Trim ~5 mm.

Cotton and wooden

Cotton wicks are numbered (e.g. the 12–16 band by diameter). Wooden wicks want mm and a model; soaking and centering are in a separate guide. Most wooden wicks do not fit a tealight.

Choosing

Thin for a narrow container, and the 16 band is common at 6–8 cm. If the fragrance load drowns the flame, try one size firmer. A burn test settles it. A holder or base adhesive centers it.

Use

~5 mm before burning. Mushrooming and soot are on separate pages. On the first burn the pool should reach the edge; tunneling comes from a thin wick.
