Dye
What is candle dye?
Candle dye is a pigment or dye that dissolves in wax. At Rufus the granule is oil-based; start at about 1%. Food and water-based dyes leak and spoil the flame. In Soya Wax 50, a dark tone makes frosting more visible.
How it is used
Melt the granule homogeneously with the wax in a double boiler. Liquid color looks darker than the solidified tone; cool a drop and look at it on paper. The usage guide is separate.
How much
~1%. Excess clogs the wick and causes soot and a weak flame. Do not inflate the total load together with the fragrance oil. The oil saturation of Soya Wax 50 is for fragrance; dye is kept separate.
What is not used
Pencil, acrylic, food coloring, chili flakes. Anything that does not dissolve in oil leaves sediment.
FAQs
Can liquid dye be used?
Oil-based candle dye, yes. Water-based, no.
Why is a black candle difficult?
