Getting Started
How to melt candle wax in a double boiler?
A double boiler heats wax indirectly in a water bath. A direct flame burns part of it and leaves part unmelted. Soya Wax 50 becomes homogeneous at about 51–55°C. A thermometer is essential.
-
Set up the water bath
Put water in the pot; the inner vessel should touch the water without overflowing. Put the wax in the inner vessel. Never put wax directly on the stove flame.
-
Melt over low heat
Stir. Soya Wax 50 should be homogeneous at ~51–55°C. Do not boil. With paraffin, follow the SKU band.
-
Take it off the heat
Add the fragrance here, not when boiling. Pouring without a thermometer is risky. Keep it away from children and pets.
Microwave
Some hobbyists try it with short intervals and stirring; even heat is difficult. A double boiler is the norm in a workshop. A metal container does not go in a microwave.
Safety
Do not let water get into the wax (splashing). A cloth and a thermometer. No wax pot over an open flame.
