Wooden Wick
How to use a wooden candle wick?
A wooden wick is not chosen by cotton wick size; millimeter/model and container diameter are what matter. Center it upright with a holder, and because soy is oily, a burn test is essential.
Size and holder
Wooden wicks are sold by width × height or by model code. Consider a thin one for a narrow jar, and a thick or double wooden wick for diameters of 7 cm+. A metal holder aligns the wick at the base and the top; a crooked wooden wick produces tunneling and a hot glass.
Behavior with soy
Soya Wax 50 is oily; a firmer wick than for paraffin at the same diameter may be needed. The crackle depends on thickness, not on scent quality. If the fragrance load (6–10%) drowns the flame, adjust by one size or reduce the load.
Burning and trimming
On the first burn, burn until the pool reaches the edge (generally 2–3 hours, depending on diameter). Before every burn, remove the charred tip; the target is ~5 mm. If the glass heats up, extinguish and switch to a thinner model. Read the wooden wick and holder product notes in the catalog together.
Wooden wick: check
| Observation | First try |
|---|---|
| Tunneling | A wider/double wooden wick, the first burn time |
| Soot / tall flame | A thinner model, 5 mm trim |
| Going out | Damp wood, a low flame, or the load may be too high |
| Crooked burn | Holder and centering |
FAQs
Does a wooden wick work in paraffin?
Sometimes it does, but often it gives a different flame than in container soy. Do not pour a series without the SKU note and a burn test.
Can I match it to a cotton wick size?
No. Sizes 12/16 are cotton thread measurements. For wood, use mm and model.
