Candle Safety Labels: What To Include
Candle safety labels protect customers and clarify responsibility. Use this atelier checklist for warnings, language, placement, and batch codes.
A handmade candle sets a mood and carries risk if misused. A small label states open-flame care, distance from children, and basic use rules. At Rufus Concept we treat labeling as part of the product—not a last-minute sticker—especially where product-safety rules expect clear consumer information.
Why Labels Matter
Goods placed on the market should be safe and honestly explained. For candles that means readable warnings, durable print, and visible placement on pack or vessel. Good labels cut misuse and returns; missing ones create risk and reputation damage.
- Open flame and keep away from flammable surfaces.
- Keep away from children and pets.
- Trim the wick (e.g. 5–6 mm) and never leave burning unattended.
- Glass may get hot—handle with care.
What To Put On The Label
Product name, net fill or weight, maker / responsible business identity, batch or date code, core safety lines. Plan allergen disclosures when formulas require them. Match warning language to the sales market; add export languages when you ship abroad.
| Field | Example | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Warning | Open flame / attend | Short, bold |
| Care | Wick trim | First-burn note |
| Identity | Brand, contact | Traceability |
| Content hint | Wax / scent family | Optional |
- Validate wording against current rules or counsel—this article is general guidance, not legal advice.
- Choose heat- and oil-resistant stock so fragrance vapor does not smear ink.
- Lid interior + base can balance visibility and aesthetics.
Placement And Readability
High contrast: dark type on matte ground. Tiny unread warnings fail. QR care videos help support but do not replace required text. In gift boxes, add a card so warnings are not hidden under the jar.
From Pour To Shelf
Keep an approved template per SKU. Link batch codes to pour day for recalls. When supplies change—new base or oil—review the text. Wick changes (cotton / wood) need updated care lines.
Give wholesale buyers a resale label template. The same safety backbone applies to soy and paraffin; content claims differ. For gel with embeds, add “no flammable decorations.”
Pre-Ship Checklist
Readable warning? Right language? Batch code? Adhesive holding? Do not seal cartons until all four pass. Quality materials from Rufus Concept still need your brand’s safety communication on every unit.
Summary: safety labels are small and powerful. Clear warnings, correct language, traceable identity, and durable print protect customers and your atelier. Build a labeling station so last-minute sticky notes never leave the bench.
Multilingual And Multichannel Labels
Local sales need the market language as the backbone; tourist or export lines benefit from short EN/DE/RU warning blocks. If three languages will not fit, use print + QR + a multilingual box card.
Show a readable label in ecommerce photos so buyers see warnings before opening the box. That weakens “I was not informed” claims.
Update Cadence
Review label copy yearly—or when wick, wax, pack, or regulatory summaries change. Version templates (v1, v2) and retire old rolls so only one active version sits on the shelf.
Even when supplies come from Rufus Concept, safety sentences belong to your brand. Treat labels as seriously as wax and wick—small sticker, large duty.
